It took longer than hoped, but the No. 3 seed Georgia baseball team earned its first NCAA Tournament victory of 2026, downing the Athens Regional 4-seed LIU 18-2 on Saturday morning to complete the opening round.

Georgia (46-12) has a short turnaround to face third-seeded Liberty (42-19), which downed second-seeded Boston College 4-3, on Saturday afternoon (5 pm ET, ESPN+). LIU plays Boston College in an elimination game earlier Saturday.

The Bulldogs tied an NCAA postseason mark with nine home runs against the Flames, a long-ball outburst that also tied a program record set earlier this season against Arkansas. Brennan Hudson and Ryan Wynn each cranked two homers, Jack Arcamone, Rylan Lujo and Daniel Jackson each had two-run homers, and both Ryan Black and Cole Johnson each added solo shots.

Georgia finished with 20 hits, with Wynn going 4-for-5 and Lujo and Arcamone each adding three hits. Georgiaโ€™s pitching staff was equally impressive, as starter Joey Volchko (10-3) struck out 10 in six hitless innings to earn the victory and the three-man relief staff allowed only two hits and finished with 14 strikeouts.

Nicholas Finarelli (8-3) took the loss for LIU. Only a passed ball and a bases-loaded walk in the ninth accounted for the Sharksโ€™ two runs. The game was suspended in the sixth inning due to inclement weather and was picked up Saturday morning.
