Georgia defeated Texas 7-1 on Saturday night in Omaha, pushing the Bulldogs into the winner’s bracket at the College World Series.

Georgia will now face Oklahoma on Monday for a spot in the semifinals. Texas, on the other hand, will play Alabama in an elimination game on Monday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a 2-run homer from Rylan Lujo and a defensive miscue by the Longhorns.

Georgia never looked back after that hot start, but the story of the game was starting pitcher Joey Volchko. He threw a complete game and struck out a staggering 15 batters in Georgia’s 7-1 win over Texas.

Volchko struck out the side in the 9th inning to secure the win:

After the game, Volchko credited the Georgia coaching staff with having him ready to pitch against a tough Texas offense.

“We knew who we were going to attack with what, how we were going to flip in between times through the order,” Volchko said. “There was a lot of preparation. There was a lot of comfort in that.

“I felt like when I got out there, things slowed down a little bit, as opposed to speed up. So honestly, just a testament to our preparation. They do an unbelievable job of making sure that we’re prepared to go out and compete.”

Georgia and Oklahoma will face off at 1 p.m. ET on Monday night.
