Tennessee will turn to Evan Blanco for its second-round game against Arkansas on Wednesday evening.

Coach Josh Elander announced that news on Tuesday night following the Vols’ 11-6 with over South Carolina.

“We’re going to roll with Evan Blanco tomorrow at the gate, and then we’ll go from there,” Elander told reporters in his postgame press conference.

Blanco will be pitching on just 4 days rest. This past weekend, he tossed 6 innings in a win over Oklahoma. He allowed 3 earned runs while striking out 6 against the Sooners in Oklahoma City.

Although he’ll be pitching on short rest, Elander said there’s no specific pitch count limit for Blanco.

“I’ll get to specifics with [assistant coach Josh Reynolds] but Blanco and I were talking about it off, again, how he threw at OU, he feels really, really good,” Elander added. “The guy’s an elite competitor, wants the baseball. And we’ll get into the specifics, but there’s not any kind of hard pitch count as of now that we’ve discussed.”

Blanco has a 4.56 ERA in 14 starts this season. He’s struck out 94 batters in 79 innings of work.
