Kentucky baseball’s first postseason starter departure is here. Wildcats catcher and designated hitter Owen Jenkins entered his name into the portal on Thursday, according to a report from Bat Cats Central’s Derek Terry.

Jenkins’ loss is a big one, especially this early. The freshman was considered one of the best prospects to make it to campus by both Perfect Game and D1Baseball, and he started 38 games for the Wildcats his freshman year, missing 10 league matchups due to injury.

The Lexington, Kentucky native recorded 2 hits and 2 RBI during Kentucky‘s NCAA tournament run, which ended at the hands of No. 16 national seed West Virginia last weekend, a thrilling series that posted combined runs of 26-25, just in favor of the Mountaineers.

For the season, Jenkins slashed .242/.302/.315 with 36 hits, 17 RBIs and 1 home run, as well as 4 doubles and 2 triples. He’ll be draft eligible in 2027.

Kentucky baseball made the NCAA Tournament for a 4th straight season this past year, but couldn’t quite break through to the Super Regional round. The Wildcats will now look to retool and make it back to the College World Series for only the second time in school history.
