Kevin Schnall is already making some moves after being hired by South Carolina on Tuesday.

The former Coastal Carolina head coach reportedly hired former Wake Forest hitting coach Bill Cilento on Thursday, according to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball. Cilento is a 17-year Wake Forest veteran and helped 64 players get drafted or sign pro contracts over the last 12ย years, per Wake Forest.

Cilento’s effect on Wake Forest was noticeable. The Demon Deacons ranked in the top 50 in home runs across 9 of the past 10 seasons and consistently ranked as one of the best hitting teams in America, and he helped lead Wake to a 39-21 record this past season.

That’s not all, though. Schnall is also reportedly retaining Chad Oxendine and Tyler Shewmaker from Coastal Carolina. Shewmaker is expected to become South Carolina’s recruiting director while Oxendine will come on as an assistant after being linked to the Chanticleers’ vacant head coaching job.

South Carolina baseball’s hiring of Schnall was a major step in the right direction after a disappointing Paul Mainieri tenure. The 2009 College World Series champion oversaw a poor first season that failed to pay dividends in Year 2, resulting in his firing in March of this year.
