LSU’s Anthony Eyanson gets huge signing bonus, will begin pro career with Red Sox
Anthony Eyanson will begin his professional career this summer and forego the remainder of his collegiate eligibility.
The former LSU starter was selected 87th overall in the 2025 MLB Draft last weekend. In the MLB Draft, players and teams are able to negotiate for bonuses above or below “slot value” for a given pick. In this case, the slot value for No. 87 was set at just over $907,000.
But Eyanson, who could have returned to LSU to be the Tigers’ ace next season, earned a bonus well over slot value. According to MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis, Eyanson has signed for $1.75 million. That’s nearly double the slot value for the 87th overall pick.
Although it’s a significant loss for LSU baseball, Eyanson is yet another pro prospect for Jay Johnson and his staff to talk about on the recruiting trail. LSU had 9 players drafted overall in the 2025 MLB Draft, which was tied for third-most in year’s class.
Eyanson is expected to slot in as one of the best pitching prospects in the Red Sox system now that he’s officially signed. As Callis notes, Eyanson struck out an impressive 152 batters in 108 innings and has an arsenal that’s headlined by a bat-missing slider and a fastball that has reached 98 miles per hour.
