LSU continued to receive good news regarding its 2027 roster as it tries to make another run at the College World Series after falling well short this season.
After landing a commitment from former Florida infielder Cade Kurland on Thursday night, LSU found out on Friday afternoon that star shortstop Steven Milam has removed his name from draft eligibility. With Milam not being in the mix anymore for the 2026 MLB Draft, he’s now set to return to play for Jay Johnson in 2027 as the Tigers aim to get back to Omaha, where they won it all in 2025.
Milam was very much a part of that national championship run in 2025, and now LSU can count on him for next season after his paperwork was filed, making it official. With Kurland also formally removing his name from the 2026 draft pool, LSU’s infield is suddenly looking a whole lot better for the 2027 season as the Tigers try to put a disappointing 2026 campaign behind them.
A New Mexico native who instantly found success after his arrival in Baton Rouge as a freshman in 2024, Milam has hit for a .305 average so far at LSU during a decorated career that will now continue next season. Milam has also combined to belt 30 home runs during his 3 seasons with the Tigers, and he’s posted 41 doubles and 146 RBIs along with a combined fielding percentage of .979.
With Milam now back in the fold for next season, LSU is still awaiting decisions from other big names like Derek Curiel and Jake Brown.
While LSU tries to reload for the 2027 season after winning it all in 2025, there are 8 teams battling it out right now in Omaha to try to succeed the Tigers as national champions. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the odds for those 8 elite teams to be holding the big trophy when the College World Series ends:
