Mississippi State starter revealed for Tallahassee Regional game vs. Florida State
Mississippi State will throw its ace on Saturday against Florida State, according to a report from Osceola Rivals’ Curt Weiler.
The Bulldogs hammered Northeastern on Friday, 11-2. Ben Davis and Ryan McPherson combined on the mound for Mississippi State, which gave up just 5 hits and struck out 6 Huskies. The absence of lefty Pico Kohn led to some speculation about whether he’d be available.
Following Friday night’s game, MSU coach Justin Parker said the decision to roll with Davis was a “health-related” move. He said he hadn’t decided on a Saturday starter and couldn’t comment any further. However, Weiler confirmed Saturday morning that Kohn will indeed draw the start for MSU against the Tallahassee Regional hosts.
Kohn owns a 4.13 ERA over 76.1 innings and 14 starts this season. He has a 5-3 record. Opponents are hitting .220 against him, though he has given up 31 extra-base hits. He has 107 strikeouts on the season and 25 walks.
Florida State will roll with its ace as well. According to Weiler, Arnold will get the start on the mound for the ninth-seeded Seminoles. Arnold is 7-2 on the season with a 3.04 ERA. Across 71 innings and 13 starts, Arnold has 97 strikeouts and 24 walks. Opponents are hitting .207 against him with 17 extra-base hits and just 5 home runs.
Mississippi State (35-21) has scored at least 10 runs in 4 of its last 5 games. Arnold has given up more than 2 earned runs in just 3 of his 13 appearances this season.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on ESPN. Florida State is favored by 1.5 in the game, via bet365.
