North Carolina called on Ryan Lynch to help the Tar Heels force a third and deciding game against Oklahoma in the College World Series best-of-three final. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, he settled in nicely.
Lynch, though, was forced to leave in the bottom of the fifth inning, and in the middle of an at-bat. He fell behind 2-0 on Kyle Branch before showing discomfort, leading trainers to come out to the field.
The crew at the 11Point7 podcast was able to read Lynch’s lips as he initially expressed confidence that he could finish out the at-bat, but ultimately needed to leave the game.
The Heels brought in Caden Glauber, who struck the side out in order to keep his team up 4-2.
The Sooners have barely done anything since their two-run first inning. Oklahoma has registered just one hit since the opening frame, with its only other batter reaching after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third.
Lynch’s official line: 4.0 innings pitched, two runs, three hits, five strikeouts, and one walk. The sophomore started the day 5-4 with a 4.20 ERA. His only previous appearance in the College World Series was on June 14 against West Virginia.
