For the fourth time in program history, Oklahoma will play for a national championship. The Sooners advanced to the College World Series Finals with an 11-4 win over No. 3 national seed Georgia. OU will face No. 5 national seed North Carolina.
The Sooners have the most multi-home run games of this year’s NCAA Tournament. OU used the longball again on Wednesday night in Omaha.
Jason Walk broke the scoring ice with a solo home run to center field in the top of the 3rd. The Sooners widened the lead to 4-0 in the 4th with a solo shot from Trey Gambill and a 2-run blast from Dasan Harris.

The Dawgs, however, refused to roll over. UGA got on the board in the 5th and made things interesting in the 6th.
Georgia scored 2 in the 6th inning and had a chance to tie or take the lead, but left the bases loaded.

Skip Johnson pulled Nick Wesloski (5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 2 BB) with 2 outs and the bases full of Bulldogs. He brought in LJ Mercurius, who handled the rest of the game (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 2 BB).
At first, it looked like the wrong move. Mercurius walked the first 2 batters, scoring two runs that were both charged to Wesloski. Mercurius got out of the jam with a ground ball to 3rd base to end the inning.

The Sooners answered UGA’s big inning by getting a run back. OU could really start to feel that it would be playing for a national title in the 8th inning. Oklahoma hit 2 more dingers in the inning, widening the lead to 9-3. Walk and Harris each hit 2 homers in the game.

Oklahoma and North Carolina will play in the College World Series Finals, a best-of-3 series to crown this year’s national champion. The teams will get two days of rest. Thursday was designated as an if-necessary day, but both OU and UNC punched their tickets on Wednesday. Friday is a scheduled off day. Game 1 of the championship series begins Saturday.
Oklahoma last reached the CWS Finals in 2022. The Sooners won the College World Series in 1951 and 1994.
