Oklahoma is liking Hoover. The No. 12 seed Sooners are now 2-0 in their first SEC Tournament, topping 5-seed Georgia 3-2 in Wednesday’s second-round action.

Kyson Witherspoon was outstanding for Oklahoma. Witherspoon improved to 10-3 on the season, going 7.2 innings in the win. He threw 107 pitches (71 strikes), allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, striking out 8 without issuing a base on balls.

Once Witherspoon was out, OU turned to Jason Bodin to get a key out. Then, it was Dylan Crooks time. Crooks got the save with an 11-pitch 9th inning to preserve the 3-2 win.

Georgia also had strong pitching performances. JT Quinn allowed just 1 earned run over 4 innings. The Sooners got 2 runs off Matthew Hoskins in the top of the 6th inning to take the lead. Dayton Tockey hit an RBI grounder to give Oklahoma its first lead, and then Brayden Horton brought home the decisive 3rd run with a 2-out single up the middle.

Oklahoma moves on to the quarterfinals to face Vanderbilt on Thursday evening. Georgia goes back to Athens to rest up for the NCAA Tournament. With an overall record of 42-15 and No. 3 RPI, the Bulldogs are well-positioned to host an NCAA Regional.
