Ole Miss wins 1-run thriller to take series against Texas A&M

The 20th-ranked Ole Miss baseball team took down the ninth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies 6-5 in a doubleheader nightcap Saturday to earn a pivotal SEC series victory.
Ole Miss (34-18 overall, 14-13 SEC) dropped Saturday’s opening game 18-5 in seven innings. Texas A&M (37-12, 16-10) also lost Friday’s series opener 5-3.

The Rebels grabbed a 5-0 lead in Saturday’s nightcap via the long ball – as Austin Fawley cranked a two-run homer and Topher Jones hit a solo shot in the second and Collin Reuter added a two-run blast in the third.
Texas A&M stormed back with five runs in the fourth, as Blake Binderup hit a three-run homer, Ben Royo belted a solo homer and Ole Miss issued a run-scoring balk.
Ole Miss snagged the lead for good in the seventh when Judd Utermark singled home a run. Starter Taylor Rabe struck out 14 over six innings, while reliever JP Robertson (3-1) earned the win. Walker Hooks took home his seventh save.
Texas A&M cranked out seven homers in Saturday’s opener. Royo and Chris Hacopian each had two deep flies, with Binderup, Caden Sorrell and Bear Harrison each adding solo shots in the 15-hit attack. Hacopian and Royo each finished with three hits.
