Oklahoma coach Skip Johnson has named his starting pitcher for Game 3 of the College World Series Finals.
The Sooners are going with freshman Nick Wesloski on Monday in a winner-take-all Game 3, per Johnson. He shared that decision in his postgame press conference after North Carolina’s 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon.
Oklahoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Sunday, but wasn’t able to sustain much offense after that. That means Oklahoma and North Carolina will advance to a rubber match on Monday with the National Championship on the line.

Wesloski’s start will mean OU started freshmen in each of its 6 games at the College World Series. Freshmen Cord Rager and Xander Mercurius have both started a pair of games since the Sooners arrived in Omaha.
Wesloski last pitched on June 17 in a win over Georgia. He tossed 5.2 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run. He will carry a 3.63 ERA on the season into Monday night’s showdown against the Tar Heels.
Oklahoma is looking for its first National Championship in baseball since 1994. The Tar Heels have finished runner-up twice in their history, but have never won the College World Series.
