Auburn baseball will be getting a new dose of Big Hurt.

Class of 2027 first baseman/outfielder Frank Thomas III, the son of MLB Hall-of-Famer Frank Thomas, announced his commitment to Auburn via social media on Monday.

Thomas III is currently a standout at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and is now Auburn’s 11th commit in its Class of 2027, which ranks No. 8 in the nation according to Perfect Game.

“I am super excited to announce my commitment to Auburn University! I want to thank God, my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everybody else who has helped me throughout this journey,” Thomas III said. “I especially want to thank my parents for all the sacrifices they have made to get me to where I am today, without them, I don’t know if any of this would’ve been possible. Also, I’d like to thank Coach Thompson and the entire Auburn coaching staff for giving me this amazing opportunity!”

Frank Thomas was a designated hitter/first baseman who captured 2 AL MVPs, 4 Silver Slugger Awards, and 5 All-Star appearances. His No. 35 is retired by the Chicago White Sox, who he played for from 1990-2005.

Auburn baseball will look to build on the momentum of last season when the program hosted a super regional for the first time.
