Elijah Foster, a righty from Sacred Heart, gave his verbal commitment to South Carolina baseball on Friday.

A 2-year starter for Sacred Heart, Foster comes to Columbia with 2 seasons of eligibility left. He made 30 appearances (all of them starts) for Sacred Heart across his 2 seasons, posting a 4.91 ERA with 156 strikeouts and 101 walks in 132 innings of work.

“I’m thankful for the past two years at Sacred Heart. With that being said, I’m happy to announce my commitment to the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks!” Foster wrote in a post on Instagram.

This past season, Foster went 5-3 with a 5.23 ERA. He recorded 76 strikeouts with 53 walks in 72.1 innings of work. Opponents hit .217 against him and recorded 10 extra-base hits with 7 home runs.

Both parties have some familiarity with one another already; Foster pitched against the Gamecocks on Feb. 15. He lasted just 3 innings that day as the Gamecock lineup got to him early and often. He finished the game with 5 hits allowed and 6 earned while striking out 3 and walking 6. South Carolina won the game 14-0.

Foster was an All-NEC Second Team selection as a freshman in 2024. The Plainfield, New Jersey, native pitched 59.2 innings while going 5-1 with a 4.53 ERA. He struck out 80 batters, walked 48, and allowed only 2 extra-base hits. Opponents hit .216 against him during his first season with Sacred Heart.

Foster’s addition marks the fifth known transfer pledge for South Carolina so far this offseason. He joins USC Upstate righty Amp Phillips, UL Monroe reliever Josh Gregoire, Purdue first baseman Logan Sutter, and Samford two-way player Cullen Horowicz.

The Gamecocks endured a disappointing 28-29 season this year. Coach Paul Mainieri is looking to get South Carolina back to the College World Series, a place it hasn’t been since 2012.
