Texas A&M baseball had a 9th inning to remember on Saturday.

For 8 innings, it seemed like the Aggies were toward another disappointing loss in what has been a disappointing season to this point in the year. Entering the 9th, Texas A&M trailed South Carolina 12-7 as the Aggies looked for a series sweep.

There were some signs of life in the late innings — the Aggies scored 2 apiece in the 7th and 8th to narrow the deficit. But a 5-run gap looked like it was going to be too much to overcome.

Until it wasn’t.

The Aggies quickly loaded the bases before South Carolina could record an out in the 9th frame. Then, Hayden Schott deposited a ball over the left-center field fence to make it a 12-11 ball game:

After a single, a pair of walks and 2 outs, Kaeden Kent stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and a chance to win the game with a base hit. He did much more than that — Kent blasted the ball to right field, guiding it just inside the foul poll to give the Aggies a memorable 15-12 win over South Carolina.

Here’s the game-winner from Kent:

With this win, Texas A&M completed a much-needed sweep of South Carolina. The Aggies have now secured back-to-back SEC series wins after they also took 2-of-3 from Tennessee last weekend. Texas A&M was a preseason favorite to win the College World Series, but the Aggies are now 20-15 on the season and will need a strong finish to the year to compete for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Texas A&M will be in action again on Tuesday against Tarleton before facing Arkansas in a road series next weekend.
