Texas baseball’s down weekend in Knoxville still ended on a high note. The No. 4 Longhorns used 4 home runs to avoid a series sweep at the hands of unranked Tennessee, 13-6.
After a gem of a performance from Tegan Kuhns in Game 1 and managing Longhorns batters while its offense did the work in Game 2, Tennessee’s pitching staff really, really struggled Sunday in Game 3. The Volunteers walked 10 batters and allowed 10 hits, including the 4 home runs mentioned above.
Casey Borba just about did it himself against the Volunteers, too. The Texas infielder hit home runs No. 14 and 15 on the season, totaling 6 RBIs and 3 runs. Borba’s Grand Slam in the top of the 6th landed him in the top 10 in career home run leaders for the University of Texas (31).
Adrian Rodriguez and Anthony Pack each added home runs of their own. Rodriguez’s started the scoring for the day while Pack’s gave Texas a 5-4 lead, a lead the Longhorns would never give back after a tight start.
The Longhorns are now 37-12 on the season and 16-10 in conference play. Texas will be back in action on Thursday against Mizzou, the final SEC series of the regular season before the SEC Tournament.
