Texas was down 5-0 after the first inning on Sunday afternoon, but the Longhorns were at home and there was a ton of game still left.

Sure enough, the 4th-ranked team in the country got going in a big way, scoring 10 unanswered runs on the way to an 11-6 victory over No. 10 Mississippi State in the SEC weekend series showdown. Texas won the game and won the series, too, its seventh series victory of the season that helped the Longhorns stay in second place in the conference.

Texas improved to 35-10 overall and 15-8 in the SEC, while Mississippi State fell to 36-12 overall and 14-10 in conference play. The Longhorns took the series opener, 3-1, on Friday before falling, 7-4, in Game 2 on Saturday. Sunday provided the chance for either SEC power to stake their claim, and after the early onslaught by the Bulldogs, it was all Texas in Austin.

Bryce Chance’s grand slam helped Mississippi State jump out to that early 5-0 lead, but it turned out to be fool’s gold for the Bulldogs.

Texas got to work in an epic third inning, scoring 9 runs and turning Sunday’s game on its ear. The Longhorns sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame, blowing through 3 Mississippi State pitchers. The Horns registered 5 hits, 4 stolen bases and 4 walks in the offensive explosion.

When the Longhorns tacked on another run in the fourth inning, it meant they had put that 5-0 hole behind them in emphatic fashion with those 10 unanswered runs.

Texas starting pitcher Luke Harrison grinded through 5 innings, helped by his offense of course, before a parade of relievers got the Longhorns all the way through on Sunday.

After its own early explosion, the Bulldogs were shut down, being held to 2 hits after the first inning.

Texas wants to win an SEC title in 2026, but the Longhorns’ big-picture focus, of course, is on making it to Omaha. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about those odds and the other top teams as they try to punch their tickets to the College World Series in June:
