Texas starter opts for return to transfer portal after 1 season with Longhorns

Ashton Larson is giving himself plenty of options for 2027.
Larson has reportedly entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. Having completed his junior season with the Texas Longhorns, Larson could be playing minor-league baseball, or return to college and weigh his options. Larson is familiar with changing teams, having played his first two seasons at LSU before transferring to Texas.

Larson, who transferred in from LSU last season has the option to sign a minor league deal or look to play another season of college ball#HookEm 🤘🏻🐂⚾️
In 2026, Larson appeared in 56 games for Jim Schlossnagle’s Longhorns, making 46 starts. He slashed .258/.433/.336, collecting 16 RBIs while scoring 21 runs. Larson hit 1 home run and 7 doubles.
His junior season saw a notable increase in playing time from 2025. Last year in Baton Rouge, Larson appeared in 34 games, making 5 stars. He posted a .256 batting average with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.
Larson’s best numbers came in his freshman season at LSU. He played in 53 games for the Tigers in 2024, making 40 starts. In his debut year, Larson slashed .298/.401/.426, logging 16 RBIs with 3 home runs, scoring 25 runs of his own.
