The 2026 College World Series is off to an exciting start, as West Virginia topped Troy in a back-and-forth battle. The Mountaineers were lifted by the bottom half of the order to a 7-5 victory, sending WVU to the winner’s bracket.

There were 3 lead changes and 2 ties in the game. It was a 5-5 game in the bottom of the 8th when Tyrus Hall, West Virginia’s No. 9 hitter, notched his 3rd and 4th RBIs of the game with a 2-run single to make it 7-5. The Nos. 6-9 hitters scored 5 of WVU’s 7 runs.

West Virginia was awarded the No. 16 overall seed before the NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers rallied to beat Kentucky to win the Morgantown Regional and then swept Cal Poly in Super Regionals to punch its ticket to Omaha.

The Mountaineers will learn their Sunday winner’s bracket opponent later Friday. No. 5 national seed North Carolina faces a red-hot Ole Miss team. The Rebels were not awarded a host seed, but are 5-0 this postseason having swept the Lincoln Regional and Auburn Super Regional.
