A former McDonald’s All-American is taking his talents to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama basketball made a notable pickup in the transfer portal, picking up a commitment from Miami transfer Jalil Bethea.

Bethea is a guard listed as measuring 6-5 and 190 pounds. In his freshman season, he played in all 31 games for the Hurricanes, making 16 starts.

Bethea averaged 7.1 points per game, leading all Miami freshmen in scoring. He posted double figures in 9 contests, including a 21-point outing against Syracuse, his career-high. Bethea was 1 of only 5 freshmen in the ACC to record 10+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists in a game during the 2024-25 season. Bethea shot 36.8% from the field last season, making 32.6% of his 3-point attempts.

As a recruit, Bethea was rated 5-stars, the No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania, No. 3 shooting guard and No. 7 prospect overall in the Class of 2024 on the 247Sports Composite. He signed with Miami over offers from Alabama, Kansas, Villanova, Temple and others.
