Amari Allen’s status revealed for Alabama’s ranked showdown at Florida
Fourteen of the SEC’s 16 schools played their weekend basketball game on Saturday afternoon/evening. Those entertaining contests, which included Kentucky beating Arkansas and John Calipari in Fayetteville, only served as an appetizer. The main course comes later today, when No. 23 Alabama and No. 19 Florida face off in Gainesville.
For the first time in nearly 3 weeks, the Crimson Tide will have all hands on deck for their game. Alabama’s Amari Allen is not listed on today’s SEC injury report. That means the 4-star freshman from Green Bay, who’s averaging nearly 12 points and 8 rebounds per game, is available for the contest.
Allen is the Crimson Tide’s top scoring forward. He ranks 5th on the team in points per game, behind Labaron Philon (22.0), Aden Holloway (16.9), the controversial Charles Bediako (13.5 PPG in 2 games) and Latrell Wrightshell Jr. (11.9). More importantly, he is the team’s leading rebounder. Having him back to tangle with Florida’s impressive front court is a major win for Alabama before it even takes the floor.
If the Gators win today, they’ll sit just a half-game behind Texas A&M for first place in the SEC. A Crimson Tide victory will result in 6 3-loss teams clogging up the second through seventh spots in the conference standings. Alabama and Florida tip off at 1:00 p.m. E.T. (ABC).
