Asa Newell has decided to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft after spending 1 season with Georgia basketball.

Newell shared that information with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony on Wednesday morning. Newell is widely-projected to be a 1st round pick in this summer’s draft and could end up being selected in the lottery.

Newell was a major reason why Georgia made it back to the NCAA Tournament this season for the first time since 2015. He averaged 15.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while also being active on the defensive end of the floor.

Newell is listed at 6-foot-11. With his combination of size, skill and mobility, Newell offers a rather unique profile for NBA teams who are looking to add to their front court this summer. The now-former Bulldog also flashed good touch (79% from the free throw line in SEC play) as a shooter during his freshman season. Givony has Newell ranked at No. 21 in his latest NBA draft projection.

Georgia has not produced a first-round pick since Anthony Edwards went No. 1 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Other active Georgia players in the NBA include Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Toumani Camara and Nic Claxton.

The 2025 NBA Draft will begin on June 25.
