College football is front and center in the sports world right now with Week 0 less than a day away. Despite this, college basketball is doing its best to get a piece of the news cycle with all the discourse surrounding 2022 recruits fighting for a fifth year in the sport.

Naturally, another player thrust himself into the chaos on Friday.

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, former Florida center Micah Handlogten has committed to Ole Miss. Handlogten, who played at Marshall in 2022-23 and won the 2025 NCAA Tournament with the Gators, averaged 4.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game during his time in Gainesville.

Handlogten, unlike eligible-then-not-eligible Missouri-to-Kentucky transfer Mark Mitchell, entered the NCAA transfer portal back in April, hoping for an additional season of eligibility.

However, Handlogten also appeared in two 2026 summer league games with the Utah Jazz. Those showings, along with this being an intra-conference transfer, make his case just as complex as the others in the sport these days.

If Handlogten is deemed eligible for the Rebels, he’ll give them an interior presence they lacked a season ago. Ole Miss averaged just 34.3 rebounds per game in 2025-26, which ranked 240th in the country and 15th in the SEC, ahead of only South Carolina (32.6 RPG).
