Georgia basketball coach Mike White reportedly receives pay raise

Georgia men’s basketball coach Mike White received a bump to his salary when he signed a 3-year contract extension last week, according to a report from the Athens Banner-Herald.
The Bulldogs announced the extension last week. The deal will keep White, hired in 2022 to replace Tom Crean, tied to the program through the 2031 season. According to the Banner-Herald, it will also raise his annual compensation to $3.91 million.
White made $3.61 million last season with Georgia. He was due to make $3.71 million this year. The $200,000 increase brings his pay from 33rd among Division I coaches to 24th, according to USA Today’s coach salary database.
Ten other SEC coaches made more last season, not including national championship-winning head coach Todd Golden, who agreed to a 6-year, $40.5 million contract extension in May that put him among the 5 highest-paid coaches in the country.
Golden was hired to replace White in 2022 after White left Gainesville. Though Florida has certainly enjoyed success on a much larger scale since White left the program, Georgia has found itself on an upward trajectory as well.
After a 16-16 debut season for White in 2022-23, the Bulldogs have won 20 games in consecutive seasons. They made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 last season and cracked the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2011.
When White was hired, Georgia was coming off a 6-26 campaign. The Bulldogs had enjoyed 1 winning season in the previous 4 years. In reaching the 20-win mark last year, White became just the third coach in program history to win 20 games in consecutive seasons.
Georgia begins the 2025-26 season on Nov. 3 against Bellarmine.
