Georgia lands 2027 legacy commitment from son of Bulldog great, former NBA forward
Georgia not only earned a big-time commitment from the best shooting guard prospect in the Class of 2027, but this special commitment comes with a name that is dear to Bulldog basketball fans’ hearts.
On Sunday afternoon, Jarvis Hayes Jr., the top-ranked shooting guard recruit in the 2027 class, told 247Sports that he has committed to play for Georgia. Hayes’ father, Jarvis Hayes Sr., played for the Bulldogs from 2001-03 and just returned to his alma mater for this coming season as an assistant coach.
That means if Hayes Sr. stays in Athens come next season, Georgia will feature a Hayes father-son combination with a shooting guard phenom and an assistant. Jarvis Hayes Sr. was a 2-time first-team All-SEC selection in 2002 and 2003 before going on to an NBA career with the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons and New Jersey Nets.
Before his son can get to the NBA level, he’ll try to follow in his father’s footsteps and make his mark in Athens starting in 2027. The 6-foot-5 Jarvis Hayes Jr. currently plays at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, and the 4-star prospect is rated as the 38th overall prospect in the Class of 2027 and the 5th-ranked player from the state of Georgia.
He chose to become a legacy at Georgia over other schools that were in the mix for him such as SEC rival Vanderbilt, as well as Florida State and Georgia Tech.
Hayes Jr. joins another 4-star guard in Justin Wise as members of Georgia’s 2027 recruiting class.
Georgia is trying to build its future rosters but has work to do for this season in trying to make noise on the national scale. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the top odds on that national scale, with making the 2027 Final Four being a goal for Georgia and every other SEC team:
