Kentucky basketball finalizing agreement to face AAC foe in 2026

College football may be at the forefront of everybody’s minds as the start of a new season rapidly approaches, but college hoops is also right around the corner, and there are some interesting preseason developments also occurring on the hardwood.
One of the sport’s greatest programs, the Kentucky Wildcats, are about to enter a very pivotal season under soon-to-be third-year head coach Mark Pope, and their upcoming non-conference schedule looks to be getting a very intriguing addition.
According to college hoops analyst Rocco Miller, the Wildcats are finalizing an agreement to face AAC powerhouse Wichita State this season at Rupp Arena.
This will be the first time these 2 programs have ever met in the regular season, but fans of both squads will remember the pair of NCAA Tournament matchups the Cats and Shockers had in 2014 and 2017.
Kentucky upset top-seeded and undefeated Wichita State in the second round back in 2014 en route to a National Championship game appearance, and the Cats took the second matchup as well in yet another Round of 32 barnburner in 2017.
If this third matchup is anything like the first 2, then the fans in Rupp Arena will be in for an absolute classic in the Bluegrass State.
