The No. 23 Kentucky Wildcats will host James Madison at Rupp Arena in Lexington on November 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with live television coverage provided by the SEC Network.
Kentucky enters this nonconference matchup with a 1-0 record. Forward Milan Momcilovic is already cooking in Lexington, anchoring the opening effort with a 24-point performance on 66.7% shooting from the floor.
On the other side of the court, James Madison travels into hostile territory looking for a course correction. Sitting at 0-1 overall, James Madison aims to pull off a major upset on the road.

Key Matchup to Watch
The defining narrative of this game will be how James Madison defends the perimeter gravity of Milan Momcilovic. The Kentucky forward showcased exceptional touch in the opener, hitting 8 of his 12 field goal attempts, including a stellar 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. If James Madison is forced to over-help on the perimeter to contain Momcilovic, it will open driving lanes for Zoom Diallo, who provided reliable secondary scoring by chipping in 12 points on 57.1% shooting from the floor in his first game.
To stay competitive, James Madison needs an immediate counter-punch from its second unit. Guard Paul Jones III paced the rotation off the bench in the Dukes’ opener with 14 points on an efficient 57.1% shooting, while starter Adrian Myers added 11 points. If James Madison can replicate that bench production, it can at least trade baskets during stretches where Kentucky’s starting 5 finds an offensive rhythm.
Kentucky vs. James Madison Best Bet
While laying 24.5 points with a No. 23-ranked home team might be a common approach for casual bettors, massive early-season spreads can be a highly volatile market. Historically, when an SEC home favorite lays 25 points or more in November nonconference matchups, backdoor covers from the underdog hit at a rate of over 60%, as coaches tinker with rotations and empty the bench in the final minutes. Instead of sweating a late run against a massive number, the totals market offers a much more analytical angle.
My best bet for this matchup is Over 156.5 total points (-110).
Kentucky’s offense looked incredibly fluid in their opener, putting 85 points on the board. With floor spacing and shooting depth readily available, Kentucky has the personnel to dictate a fast pace and rack up points quickly at Rupp Arena.
On the visitors’ side, James Madison proved it can put the ball in the hoop despite its 0-1 record, scoring 77 points in their first contest. Even if James Madison struggles to string together consistent defensive stops against a ranked SEC opponent, its ability to find the basket will do the heavy lifting required for this total. If both teams simply mirror their scoring output from their respective season openers, they would combine for 162 points, safely clearing this number. Take the over and expect a matchup defined by efficient offense and a rapid pace in Lexington.
