Latrell Wrightsell Jr. is back for another year at Alabama. The Yea Alabama collective revealed Monday that Wrightsell has been granted a medical redshirt year for 2025-26, allowing him to return for another season with the Crimson Tide.

Wrightsell was limited to 8 games before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. He was off to a strong start, averaging 11.5 points per game, along with 2 assists and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 42% from 3-point territory.

In a January interview, Nate Oats publicly stated that the plan was for Wrightsell to use a medical redshirt year and return in 2025-26. Wrightsell, though, was nervous until his status became official.

A lot of people are happy for me… I was a little nervous,” he told Yea Alabama. “I mean I’m always nervous and until something is final, and a lot of people said, ‘We’ve been telling you like it’s going to happen,’ but just trusting in (that) and finally getting the waiver has been a blessing.

Wrightsell was also limited by injury during the 2023-24 campaign, his first season at Alabama. He has sights set on a full season without any hiccups.

“It’s a blessing just being able to live out a dream that I’ve always wanted to do which is just finally play in a basketball season — a full one — just giving me an opportunity like I always wanted to play like a full season for Alabama.”

Expectations are high for UA basketball after the Crimson Tide reached the Elite Eight again in 2025, following up the program’s first Final Four in 2024.
