Mark Mitchell returns to Mizzou, abandons Kentucky transfer plan

Mark Mitchell will return to Mizzou for his final season of college basketball, according to a report.
On3’s Joe Tipton shared that news on Monday morning, with other reporters noting that Mitchell has already officially enrolled at Mizzou.
This development is a surprise as Mitchell previously committed to Kentucky out of the transfer portal. However, his eligibility to play for another SEC school had been called into question because he did not enter the transfer portal back in April.
Mitchell is now set to be eligible for the 2025-26 season pending appeals to various state and federal court cases. He’s one of numerous class of 2022 athletes who are looking to benefit from the NCAA’s new 5-in-5 eligibility model that is set to go into effect this season.

If Mitchell is indeed eligible for the upcoming campaign, it’s a huge boost for Mizzou and its NCAA Tournament aspirations. Last season, Mitchell averaged 18.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He’s also one of the most experienced players in the country — he’s already logged 133 starts in college.
As for Kentucky, Mitchell’s decision to remain with the Tigers is another big blow for Mark Pope and his staff. The Wildcats have been trying to for months to fill out their roster with another elite talent but have had multiple high-profile misses.
