Kentucky head coach Mark Pope shares that he is still unsure whether Jaland Lowe or Denzel Aberdeen will be available for Tuesday’s season opener against Nicholls, according to Jon Rothstein.
Neither Lowe nor Aberdeen played in Kentucky‘s exhibition game last week against Georgetown. Lowe has been dealing with a shoulder injury, while Aberdeen is recovering from a leg injury. Sophomore Jayden Quiantance also did not play in the exhibition game last week as he continues rehab for a knee injury.
Starting the year with key players out is not how Kentucky envisioned the start of the year going.

Kentucky comes into the year ranked as the No. 9 team in the country. While a team of this level should still be able to handle Nicholls without some of its key players, it’s not about the wins and losses for Kentucky. With a team full of new players, getting the team reps and minutes playing together is the name of the game early into the season.
Lowe, Aberdeen, and Quaintance were not on Kentucky’s team last year and transferred in from other programs. It’s hard to learn the system and gel with other players when you are not on the court with them.
Kentucky’s season will start on Tuesday against Nicholls, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
