Miami (OH) has been the talk of the college basketball season as the RedHawks finished the regular season undefeated at 31-0. Despite that record, there’s been some debate about whether or not they would be able to earn an at-large bid if they lost in the MAC Tournament.
On Thursday, that happened as UMass knocked off the RedHawks 87-83 in the quarterfinal round of the MAC tournament.
Per the latest odds on Kalshi, Miami (OH) has about a 75% chance to reach the round of 64:
While it will be a stressful next 72 hours for the Redhawks and coach Travis Steele, there are a few numbers that should give the team some confidence it will still make the NCAA Tournament. The selection committee has never left out a team that has won at least 29 games in the regular season. The RedHawks will be 31-1 on Selection Sunday.
Not only does the RedHawks losing hurt the team, but it also hurts the other bubble teams across college basketball looking to get in as an at-large selection. The MAC now has the potential to be a 2-bid league.
There is still a lot to be decided over the next three days, but the biggest story of the regular season will now have to wait and see if they are dancing on Sunday.
