Mississippi State has signed former Washington State center ND Okafor, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Okafor had originally committed to play for Chris Beard and Ole Miss, but has since changed his mind and signed with the Bulldogs.
That’s a big get for Mississippi State, too. Okafor averaged 11 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season with the Cougars and is a strong shot blocker, boasting a 6.6% block percentage. That number ranks 93rd among qualified players in Division I. On top of that, Okafor ranked second in the WCC with 46 blocks on the season across 31 starts for WSU.
Okafor is the 6th transfer commitment of the offseason for Mississippi State basketball. He joins Kennesaw Stat’s RJ Johnson, Utah’s Kendyl Sanders, Stone Hall’s Tajuan Simpkins, Florida State’s Thomas Bassong and Sacramento State’s Mark Lavrenov. The Bulldogs will retain Josh Hubbard and King Grace while adding 3 high school recruits: Tristan Reed, Jayden Collingwood and Willie Burnett III.
Interestingly, Okafor is the 3rd Washington State player to transfer into the SEC. Okafor is joined by Ace Glass, who is committed to Vanderbilt, and Jerone Morton, who just committed to play for Kentucky.
