Nate Oats addressed the return of Aden Holloway to the Alabama roster during SEC Tipoff in Birmingham on Tuesday.
In March, Holloway was arrested on first-degree marijuana possession and tax stamp charges. He was handed a five-game suspension, meaning he’ll miss all three of the Crimson Tide’s exhibition games and their first two regular-season games against Sam Houston and Arkansas State. As for the charges, they were dropped after Holloway entered and completed a pretrial diversion program.
“I’m super proud of him. He’s applied himself consistently over these last few months, did all the work required to get all the charges dropped,” Oats said. “I couldn’t be more proud of a young man and what he’s done over the summer and the fall so far.”
Holloway, who is entering his third season at Alabama after playing for Auburn as a freshman, was a core part of a Tide team that advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive season. He averaged 16.8 points and 3.8 assists per game and was a third-team All-SEC selection.
Alabama was picked to finish fifth out of 16 SEC teams in the annual preseason poll released on Monday. Amari Allen, the team’s lone preseason all-conference selection, made the second team.
