The Golden State Warriors are reportedly interested in Florida basketball head coacsh Todd Golden should their current head coach, Steve Kerr, announce his retirement soon. This report comes from Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin O’Connor.

While this is a bit of an unorthodox piece of information, it’s worth noting that Kerr’s retirement is certainly on the table. The Warriors head coach recently said the following concerning his future as a head coach after Golden State fell in the NBA Play-in Tournament: “I don’t know what’s next,” Kerr said. “I still love coaching, but all of these jobs have an expiration date.”

In addition to Golden State’s struggles, Kerr’s contract is set to expire this offseason.

Golden is an intriguing candidate not only due to his success and unique coaching approach but because of his ties to San Francisco. Golden coached the San Francisco Dons for 3 seasons from 2020-2022 before taking the Florida job at the start of the 2022-23 season. Prior to that, Golden served as an assistant at San Francisco under head coach Kyle Smith.

Of course, Golden has built Florida back into a national power after a few off seasons in Gainesville. The Gators won the national title in 2025 and landed a 1-seed in the most recent NCAA Tournament before falling to an Iowa team that went on to the Elite 8. He’s building a strong unit for next season, too, with Alex Condon declaring his return and Denzel Aberdeen back in the fold after transferring back to the Gators program from Kentucky.

Golden holds a head coaching record of 160-77 at the college level and is 7-3 in the NCAA tournament.
