Oklahoma basketball has joined a growing number of programs with the hiring of its first-ever general manager. The Sooners announced in a release on Monday that the program as hired Lucas McKay to the position.
McKay brings several years of experience to Oklahoma. He spent more than 2 decades in upstate South Carolina with the Clemson Tigers, serving as Clemson’s video coordinator, recruiting director and, as of the 2024-25 season, general manager.
“It is with great humility that I accept the responsibility to serve OU Athletics and its men’s basketball program in the role of general manager,” McKay said, via Oklahoma’s release. “OU has a rich basketball history and tradition, and it was truly exciting to hear the vision Roger Denny, Marcus Bowman (deputy AD and men’s basketball administrator) and Coach Moser have for the program moving forward and what we need to do to remain competitive in the best basketball conference in the country.”
McKay has a lot of experience working with Clemson’s Brad Brownell. Before following Brownell to Clemson, McKay spent time at UNC Wilmington and Wright State.
He took a brief hiatus away from Clemson around the start of the pandemic, serving as an assistant coach for Kansas City (then UMKC).
