Ole Miss forward Corey Chest will enter the transfer portal on Tuesday, according to On3 basketball reporter Joe Tipton. He’s the second player to announce his plans of entering the portal this offseason, joining Eduardo Klafke.
As you probably already know, the transfer portal opens on April 7th, running through April 21. Players looking to play for a new team next season must enter the portal during this window.
Chest has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining. He originally started his career at LSU, where he sat a year before appearing in 26 games for the Tigers as a redshirt freshman. Chest entered the portal the year following and landed at Ole Miss under Chris Beard.
Chest is a strong defender and appears to be an efficient scorer, but he’s far from a high-volume option — at least, he didn’t play like one during his lone season in Oxford. The 6-8 forward averaged 2.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and struggled to stay on the court against the best of the best in the conference. Chest failed to score 10 points in a single game even once across the entire season.
As mentioned, Chest is a strong defender and will no doubt find a spot on a roster next season. The question is where and what level (mid or high-major) he’ll be playing at.
