Ryan Hampton, 5-star Kentucky commit, will re-join Dallas high school team

Elite 5-star small forward and Kentucky basketball commit Ryan Hampton teased a “major announcement” earlier this week. He revealed on Sunday that he will be returning to Dallas to play for Rockwall-Heath high school after playing last season for DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida.
While making his announcement, Hampton mentioned again that he will not be re-classifying to the 2026 class and is still committed to play for Mark Pope and the Wildcats in 2027.
There was some buzz earlier this summer that Hampton could be a target for reclassification, but that appears to have never been a real option in the 5-star’s mind — even with Pope looking to add an extra player for this upcoming season. Hampton reiterated multiple times in recent months that he intends to stay a member of the 2027 class, and Sunday’s announcement reaffirmed that.
Hampton is an excellent player, to say the least. He stands at 6-foot-6, 190 pounds and still has a lot of growing to do, and he’s shown flashes of being a strong creator on offense according to 247Sports Scouting Director Adam Finklestein. He committed to play for Kentucky in June of this year.
Hampton is considered to be the No. 14 player in the country according to 247Sports, as well as the No. 4 small forward and, as it currently stands, the No. 7 player out of Florida. His move to Texas will make him the No. 2 player out of the Lone Star State for the 2027 cycle.
