SEC basketball has been one of the dominant storylines this season, and that was further cemented with the reveal of the 2024-25 Sporting News All-America Team.
On Wednesday, Sporting News revealed its full list of All-America honors, including 3 stars from the SEC on the first-team list. That group is headlined by Auburn star Johni Broome, 1 of 2 unanimous selections for the first-team.
Broome was joined by Duke star Cooper Flagg as a unanimous selection with those two players battling it out for National Player of the Year honors at this point in the year. Broome is averaging 18.0 ppg, 10.7 rpg, 3.3 apg and 2.4 bpg while shooting better than 50% from the floor and leading the Tigers to 16 Quad 1 wins.
Florida guard Walter Clayton also landed first-team honors, becoming the first player in program history to capture first-team All-America honors. Remarkably, former stars Al Horford and Joakim Noah (among others) only received second-team honors during their time in Gainesville. Clayton led the Gators with 17.2 points per game and a 27-4 regular season.
The final SEC player on the first-team list goes to Alabama point guard Mark Sears. He averages 19.5 ppg and 5 apg for Nate Oats as the Crimson Tide went 24-7 and finished 3rd in the elite SEC this year.
The final first-team spot went to Purdue point guard Braden Smith.
No SEC players landed on the second-team list, but a pair of Tennessee stars received third-team All-America honors. Star point guard Zakai Zeigler (13.1 ppg, 7.5 apg and 1.9 spg) and Vols leading scorer Chaz Lanier (17.9 points per game) received the distinction.
Now, it’s time to see how that group fares throughout the SEC Basketball Tournament this week.
