MiLaysia Fulwiley has been a star for Dawn Staley’s South Carolina program, playing 2 seasons for the Gamecocks after joining the program as a prominent in-state player. Now, she’s reportedly planning to look at her options via the transfer portal.
Lulu Kesin with The Greenville News was the first to report the news on Friday evening, citing sources on anonymity with no public announcement made at this time. Others have since joined the reporting, including ESPN, for the star guard who has appeared in 77 games across the past 2 seasons.
As a freshman, Fulwiley was the team’s 2nd-leading scorer with 38 appearances but just 3 starts for the program. This past season, Fulwiley was once again South Carolina’s 2nd-leading scorer, but she served as the team’s first player off the bench with 39 appearances but no starts. She captured the 2024 SEC Tournament MOP and was the 2024-25 SEC 6th Woman of the Year winner.
Fulwiley’s career averages are 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 43% from the floor and 30% from 3-point range. Unfortunately, her 3-point shooting dipped considerably from her freshman to sophomore seasons.
The star guard opened the NCAA Tournament with some impressive performances, including a 23-point outing in a Sweet 16 win over Maryland. Unfortunately, she managed just 21 points over the final 3 games, including 9 points in the blowout loss to UConn in the national title game.
Now, it will be interesting to see where Fulwiley looks for her new home in college basketball.
