Steven Pearl challenges team leadership after Auburn’s double-digit loss at Mizzou

Steven Pearl took over as the coach at Auburn this year with the hopes that he would continue to build off what his dad Bruce had built during his time as the coach. However, things have not gone as planned, as the Tigers are only 10-7 on the season and 1-3 in SEC play.

The most recent loss was to Missouri on Wednesday night, as Auburn fell in that game 84-74.

After the game, Pearl was very frustrated with his team, and he called out the leaders on his team to step up.

“We lost this game before we even got here. We didn’t have great body language today,” Pearl told reporters. “I have to do a better job of getting our guys in the right mindset. We need some leadership on this team to step up.”

The Tigers lost some key players from last year’s team, but have the talent to be able to play with almost any team in the SEC. In their previous game, they defeated a standout Arkansas team by 22 points.

The last two games is the perfect example of where the leadership is lacking. When things are going well, everybody is on the same page. However, when the team needs to come together the most in tough situations, Pearl is pleading for his leaders to step up and do their job.

Thursday and Friday figure to be some tough practices, and Saturday’s game against South Carolina will be a perfect opportunity for those leaders to step up.
