Tahaad Pettiford exited last Saturday’s loss to Purdue with an apparent ankle injury. Following the game, head coach Steven Pearl was unable to provide an update for the standout point guard.

There is some good news to report, however. Pearl met with media on Saturday and revealed that Pettiford was a participant on Friday and had “one of his best practices of the year.” When asked about his status moving forward, Pearl simply said, “he’s good.”

Obviously, this is great news for the Tigers, who fell in a one-sided affair to Purdue following Pettiford’s exit. The Tigers have struggled against top 10 opponents this season, but can boast wins over St. Johns and NC State. Auburn has one more non-conference game on the schedule before conference play begins on January 3 against Georgia.

Pettiford has not been as efficient as he was his freshman year, but he has posted some downright incredible stat lines against top-tier competition. The sophomore point guard dropped 30 points against Arizona, 27 against St. John’s and 16 against Michigan.

How Auburn fares in SEC play is ultimately going to be determined by the team’s defensive effort. The Tigers have a top 25 offensive in the country per Kenpom, but the 83rd rated defense in the country.

The Tigers are back in action on Monday, facing off against Queens from Neville Arena.
