Todd Golden and the Florida Gators are coming off a national championship after knocking off Houston, 65-63, in an instant classic. The Gators were able to win a championship in only Golden’s 3rd year at Florida after coming over from San Francisco.

He also became the youngest coach (39 years old) to win a national championship since Jim Valvano in 1983. One area where Golden was phenomenal this past season was bringing in the right guys through the transfer portal. He has shown the ability to be able to build a great team in today’s NIL and transfer portal era, which is an absolute must for any coach to be successful in this era.

Making sure Todd Golden is the coach in Gainesville for a long time is very important to everybody involved with the Florida basketball program. According to the Gators coach, the 2 sides are close on a deal that would keep him the coach in a long time. He confirmed the work during Saturday’s celebration at the spring game.

Golden has quickly taken the Gators to a championship level. In his first season in 2022-23, the Gators went 16-17. Last season, they improved to 24-12, making it to the NCAA Tournament before this year’s magical ride.

He is 57-36 overall in his first 3 seasons, and could be in line for a pay raise that could make him 1 of the highest paid coaches in all of college basketball.
