Vanderbilt guard Tyler Tanner has decided to return to college basketball for the 2026-27 season.

Tanner went through the pre-draft process this month and participated in the NBA Scouting Combine in Chicago. However, he has opted for another season of college hoops.

Tanner announced that decision on social media. He and other early-entrants had until Wednesday night to decided whether or not they would remain in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Tanner had a tremendous sophomore season for the Commodores this past year. He averaged 19.5 points and 5.1 assists while earning all-SEC honors and leading Vanderbilt to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

However, Tanner measured in at under 5-foot-11 at the Combine, which would have made him one of the smallest players in the NBA if he had chosen to enter the draft.

Tanner’s return will give Vandy a great chance to make a run to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament in 2027. The Commodores fell short of a Sweet 16 run this past year, losing a heart-breaker to Nebraska in the Round of 32.

Vanderbilt also retained head coach Mark Byington while adding key transfers such as T.O. Barrett and Sebastian Williams-Adams, among others.
