1 down, 2 to go: Bo Nix freshman season record watch heading into Iron Bowl

Bo Nix’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Harold Joiner on Saturday was one for the record books. It gave Nix 181 completions in his freshman season, breaking former Auburn QB Stan White’s school record. The Joiner touchdown reception also tied Nix with White for 14 touchdown passes as a freshman.
The freshman touchdown record isn’t the only one in Nix’s sights heading into the Iron Bowl. The legacy Tiger needs only 50 passing yards to pass White’s freshman passing yardage mark.
After Auburn’s 52-0 win over Samford, Nix was asked about breaking, tying and chasing White’s records.
“I don’t even really think about it,” Nix told AL.com’s Giana Han. “Just doing whatever I can to help the team win. At the end of the day, that’s the ultimate goal.”
If Nix leads the Tigers to an Iron Bowl victory, it’s safe to assume he will have completed the freshman passing record hat trick. One of Nix’s top targets, Auburn WR Seth Williams has seen improvement from the rookie QB throughout the 2019 campaign.
“He’s improved a lot on the standpoint of away games, home games,” Williams told Han. “He knows how to take the pressure. There’s not a lot of weight on his shoulders anymore. He can deal with it.”
