2-Minute Drill: Will Patton Robinette provide answers at quarterback?

Patton Robinette has been cleared to play in Vanderbilt’s game at Kentucky Saturday. The sophomore suffered a concussion in the Commodores’ Week 4 loss to No. 13 South Carolina after capping off a successful touchdown drive in the first quarter.

Robinette opened the season as Vanderbilt’s starting quarterback before being sidelined with an injury in a Week 1 loss to Temple. He returned in Week 3 to lead a late-game rally over UMass for the Commodores’ only win of the season. Robinette has accounted for three of Vanderbilt’s five offensive touchdowns this season and has yet to throw an interception.

The Commodores offense has struggled in his absence, with three quarterbacks combining for six interceptions. On Saturday, Robinette faces a Kentucky defense that looks improved in head coach Mark Stoops’ second season. The sophomore will need to play an efficient game and avoid mistakes against a talented Wildcats team on the rise.

Kentucky is an 18-point favorite to win on Saturday and should benefit from a Week 4 bye. A home matchup against a struggling Vanderbilt team will also play in the Wildcats’ favor. The Commodores will need a solid performance from Robinette, as well as tailback Ralph Webb, in order to compete against heavily favored Kentucky. To pull of an upset, Robinette must play mistake-free football and capitalize on any opportunities possible against a young, talented Kentucky roster.
