The most notable passing performances in the SEC last Saturday came in losses. Arch Manning’s continued struggles and Gunner Stockton’s ill-timed turnovers defined some major defeats in Week 7. They may have the storylines, but other teams in the conference earned victories behind their passers’ strong showings.

On Monday, the Davey O’Brien Award named its “Great 8” for Week 7. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, LSU signal-caller Sam Leavitt and Auburn passer Byrum Brown were honored by the award, along with three Big 12 and two Group of 6 quarterbacks, for their performances.

Chambliss, the widely perceived best quarterback in college football, threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns in the Rebels’ dominant 31-3 trouncing of Missouri. His efforts, combined with his defense’s dominance, turned a highly anticipated affair into a blowout.

Leavitt, an Arizona State transfer, was also part of a Saturday demolition. He didn’t get to face off with Kamario Taylor, but was not tested by the Mississippi State defense, compiling 289 passing yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers’ 31-0 rout of the Bulldogs.

Last but certainly not least, we have Brown, who transferred to Auburn to continue playing under head coach Alex Golesh. The former South Florida Bull posted 265 total yards and two total touchdowns while leading his Tigers over No. 1 Georgia on Saturday. The win ended Auburn’s nine-game losing skid in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. All three quarterbacks return to the field in Week 8.
