3 ways Monday night’s power outage delay could’ve been more embarrassing for Florida State

The Florida State Seminoles were set to wrap up Labor Day Weekend on Monday night with a game against SMU. Pregame was going smoothly until… the lights went out.

Yes, that’s right, the power went out at Doak Campbell Stadium (apparently caused by a damaged substation) and the game went into a lengthy delay. If a “Hail Mary” attempt to get the lights back on didn’t work, the game likely would’ve been delayed until Tuesday.

Eventually, there were enough lights to play, but not enough electricity to run the scoreboard or the in-stadium clock, apparently. So a bizarre game unfolded, made even more bizarre by the fact that FSU won the turnover battle 4-0, had more rushing yards, won the time-of-possession battle and had half as many penalties as SMU and still lost the game.

Not having power in your stadium is pretty embarrassing, as is losing the way FSU did. But here are 3 ways it could’ve been even more embarrassing.

1. Chief Osceola’s horse pooped at midfield

Look, no one wants to get tackled in a pile of horse poop. We’ve all been in a situation where we take a step in unsuspecting grass and… freeze. Dog poop. Now imagine that situation times about 10. That’s a horse poop scenario.

This isn’t a clean pick-up situation either. It’s tough to get all the poop off of blades of grass. And any lingering poop is a biohazard.

OK, I should probably wrap this paragraph up before I say “poop” too many more times. That’s 7 already. Let’s move on, shall we?

2. An alligator chomped through the power line

This one is pretty self-explanatory. The Florida Gators? Could Albert have been behind this?

Florida will make the visit to Doak Campbell Stadium on Nov. 27. We’ll see if any shenanigans unfold when those 2 rivals get together.

3. A Christmas Tree fell on the power line

Jimbo Fisher was back in town for this game as an ESPN analyst, so how fitting would it have been if a Christmas tree fell on the power line, causing an outage?

Honorable mention: The toilets stopped working

This isn’t a problem you notice until it becomes unbearable. I’ve already said “poop” enough in this article, so I’ll refrain from saying it again, but you can imagine, right? This all could’ve been avoided if that guy just ate the dog poop like he said he would last year. #FSPoo.
