A key recruit for Auburn has announced that he will not play high school football this season as he aims to stay safe ahead of his move to The Plains.
Lee Hunter, a 4-star defensive tackle, committed to Auburn in December. The 6-foot-5, 292-pound defensive tackle announced his commitment to Auburn over offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Tennessee among many others. Hunter is listed as a 4-star by 247Sports as the No. 6 player at his position and the No. 3 player in Alabama as he hails from Eight Mile (Blount). Hunter has at least 21 offers to date.
In Alabama, WTVA reported over the weekend that testing has confirmed more than 100,000 cases of COVID-19 in Alabama since the pandemic began in the spring, and more than 1,820 have died. Because of the pandemic, some high schools across the state are limiting fan attendance.
Auburn currently sits at No. 7 in the SEC and No. 18 nationally, and Hunter is the highest-rated recruit of this class for the Tigers.
