4 things Dan Mullen said about Florida’s Early Signing Period

Wednesday was an exciting day for new Florida coach Dan Mullen and his coaching staff.
After a tough start to the week by losing 4-star QB Matt Corral to Ole Miss, the Gators managed to rebound in a big way as the first-ever early signing period got underway.
On Wednesday afternoon, Mullen held a press conference to address the Gators’ 2018 recruiting haul so far — a class that has greatly improved since some early struggles.
Here are four of the biggest things Mullen had to say during his press conference:
On landing QB Emory Jones, the nation’s No. 4 overall dual-threat QB:
Mullen on winning a big recruiting battle to get 4* QB Emory Jones: 'Those are the expectations here.' Says it's the first but won't be the last.

Mullen said 'there's some talented quarterbacks on campus,' not just Emory Jones. Looks forward to getting to know all of them.

Mullen on Emory Jones: "He's not just coming to play quarterback: he's coming to play quarterback at the University of Florida. A lot of responsibility comes with that."

On also adding other key offensive players:
Mullen said O-linemen, TEs were big needs. Signed two of each.

On having an advantage by not playing in a bowl:
Mullen says #Gators might have had an advantage with this early period by not playing in a bowl game, but says he hopes that doesn't happen again.

On moving forward as the February signing day approaches:
"What we'll do now is reset. Look at the pool, look at our needs, look at who fits, then we'll get after it again," Mullen said.

The early signing period goes on through Friday, so the Gators will continue to pursue some of the nation’s top talent. Whether they land anymore big-time commits remains to be seen, but Mullen will certainly do what he can to rebuild Florida’s 2018 class.
